🛑 RED FLAGS TO WATCH OUT FOR

🚩 Red Flag🔍 Explanation
Unregistered Email DomainThe reply-to email (@tenderdcs-gov.co.za) is not a government domain. Real government emails use @dcs.gov.za only.
Unverifiable RFQ ReferenceThe quote number GTC 03/2025 does not appear on any official procurement portal.
"System delay" disclaimerA typical scam tactic to excuse random email timing.
Urgency with compliance requirementsScammers request B-BBEE, bank letters, and registration docs to seem credible — but their goal is to bait companies.
Allowing resellers with no scope expertiseReal DCS tenders require pre-qualification and scope alignment.

⚠️ HOW THIS SCAM WORKS

  1. You receive a convincing RFQ email.

  2. You are urged to respond urgently to a non-government email address.

  3. Once you send a quote, they "award" the tender and direct you to a “preferred supplier.”

  4. You are asked to pay this supplier upfront for goods.

  5. The supplier disappears — and so does your money.

✅ WHAT TO DO IF YOU RECEIVE THIS

  • Do NOT respond to the email or send any documents.

  • Do NOT pay any upfront costs to "preferred suppliers."

  • Report it to the DCS directly at 📞 012 307 2000.

  • Report the email to National Treasury at 📧 cybercrime@treasury.gov.za

🛡️ HOW TO VERIFY A LEGITIMATE DCS TENDER

  • Always check https://etenders.treasury.gov.za for official DCS listings.

  • Ensure contacts are using @dcs.gov.za email addresses only.

  • Contact DCS Procurement directly via verified numbers.

  • Validate RFQ numbers and contact persons through the CSD (Central Supplier Database).
