 SCAM ALERT: Fake SITA Tender for KC55X R12 Biometric Access System (RFI 3067-2025)

Cybercriminals continue to target suppliers using fraudulent tenders that impersonate government agencies. A recent scam email is being circulated under the name of Teresa Makamu, falsely representing SITA (State Information Technology Agency), asking for urgent quotations on a fabricated tender: SITA-RFI 3067-2025 for the supply of 85 Units of KC55X R12 Biometric Access Systems.

🛑 How the Scam Works

  1. You receive an RFQ email from someone spoofing a SITA employee.

  2. You're asked to urgently quote for a bulk product like biometric scanners.

  3. Once you send your quote and documents, you're issued a fake purchase order.

  4. You're directed to purchase the product from a specific (fraudulent) supplier.

  5. After payment or delivery, the scammer disappears — no payment or refund.


✅ What to Do If You Receive This Email

  • Do not respond or send any company documents.

  • Do not purchase any equipment or pay third-party “recommended” suppliers.

  • Verify the tender through:

  • Contact SITA Head Office to confirm if the tender is legitimate.

  • Report the incident to:

    • National Treasury Fraud Unit: fraud@treasury.gov.za

    • SAPS Cybercrime Division

    • SITA Fraud Hotline (if applicable)
