🚩 Red Flags in This Tender Scam

🔍 Suspicious Detail❗ Why It’s a Red Flag
@dsdgovtenders.online domainFake domain – not used by South African government departments.
No official DSD tender reference numberGenuine DSD tenders are published on eTenders.
Urgent 3-day deadlinePressure tactic to rush you into action.
Encouragement to source from another supplierGovernment departments never instruct suppliers to outsource items.
“Automated email” disclaimerUsed to avoid accountability or traceability.

🎯 How the Scam Works

  1. You’re asked to submit a quote for a product — often outside your usual offerings.

  2. They suggest or "recommend" a supplier (an accomplice scammer).

  3. You pay the fake supplier expecting DSD to reimburse or complete the order.

  4. The scammer vanishes, leaving you with a loss.

✅ How to Protect Yourself

  • Verify tender details on official platforms:

  • Check the sender's email domain. Legitimate government emails end in .gov.za.

  • Call the DSD using their verified number from their website — do not use phone numbers in the suspicious email.

📢 Report Suspicious Activity

If you believe you've received or responded to a scam tender:

  • 🛡 Report it to the National Treasury’s fraud hotline:
    📧 fraud@treasury.gov.za

  • 🛡 Report to the DSD:
    📧 fraud@dsd.gov.za or call 0800 60 10 11

  • 🕵️ Also report to SAPS Commercial Crime Unit in your region.

🛑 REMEMBER: If the domain is not .gov.za, it’s most likely a scam. Always verify before you quote or procure.
